This has all the earmarks of a big Hollywood hit. Super secret location? No one knows where it will be yet, just somewhere in Downtown LA. Headlined by a huge (and temperamental) star? Doesn’t get much bigger than Vincent Van Gogh. Hard to get tickets? It sold out in Paris and Toronto, and it has been the hardest ticket to come by in Chicago and San Francisco, prompting months-long extensions. The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit comes to LA this May and pre-sale tickets are available now. Here’s everything we know about this hot new art pop-up, and why we can’t wait to Gogh.

Here We Gogh

Los Angeles is only the third stop in the US for the Immersive Van Gogh Experience, and so far, it’s been getting rave reviews. With museums closed, this opportunity to walk through, and be immersed, in some of the most beautiful art in the world is intoxicating.

What exactly is this show? Set in cavernous spaces, there are over 500,000 feet of giant projections animating the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Guests can wander through moving images that bring to life the color and detail, highlighting his brushstrokes and bringing visitors inside the mind of the artist.

Walk around in Van Gogh's The Bedroom.

The works are brought to life with art, light, music, movement, and imagination. Some of his most famous paintings, including Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889) are included, as are some lesser-known works. It’s a whole new way of looking at and experiencing art, and the immersive nature and grand scale make it far more fun for kids than standing in a quiet gallery, being told not to touch anything.

Is It Good To Gogh with Kids?

Parents who have gone in other cities say this is a great exhibit for kids, but with two caveats. One is that this is a slightly pricey ticket for what amounts to about an hour-long experience (less for younger children with shorter attention spans). But in a year where getting out of the house has been rare, and museums have been closed, it's a great opportunity for a little culture and art. The other thing I’ve heard from several people is that the music can be loud, so if you have very young children (or anyone who reacts to loud music), noise-canceling headphones might be a good idea.

Is It Safe To Gogh?

Every person will have to make that determination for their own family. It’s a walk-in experience in a very large space with many safety measures in place, including reduced capacity, temperature checks on arrival, touchless hand sanitizing stations throughout the venue, contactless payment and plexiglass barriers, social distancing and mask-wearing required, and more.

Where To Gogh To See the Show

Well, we don’t really know yet, but somewhere in Downtown LA. The location is “a secret venue situated in the heart of Los Angeles” and will be emailed to ticket holders as soon as the information is made public. If you're interested, get tickets sooner rather than later, as this show has been selling out everywhere. (Tickets just went on sale, and it's already sold out through September and has already been extended through January of next year!) Adult tickets range from basic tickets at $39.99 during off peak hours to $99.99 for VIP tickets. Tickets for kids ages 6-16 are $29.99 and kids 5 and under are free.
