45 Things to Do in Baltimore with Kids: Where to Eat, Play and Stay in Charm City

Things to do with kids: 45 Things to Do in Baltimore with Kids: Where to Eat, Play and Stay in Charm City

Baltimore is an incredibly kid friendly city. With a very walkable and water-focused Inner Harbor downtown area and lots of kid-oriented museums, there's tons of stuff to do. And if you have a transportation lover, this city is heaven. There are a plethora of rail museums and boats galore.

But the transportation awesomeness is not just in the form of museums, from water taxis to light rail, Baltimore is easy to get around without a car. If you arrive by Amtrak right into the city center, the whole weekend could be a car-free trip.

Here's our list of things to do with kids in Baltimore from attractions to festivals, family friendly restaurants and even a few suggestions on where to sleep when you're ready to crash.

Philadelphia Day Trip: 13 Fun Things to Do With Kids

Things to do with kids: Philadelphia Day Trip: 13 Fun Things to Do With Kids

Just 100 miles from New York City, Philadelphia makes for an entertaining and educational day trip, especially with Memorial Day weekend and summer vacation coming up. The City of Brotherly Love has a spirit all its own and is loaded with history, and there are a variety of activities that will appeal to kids of all ages, from tots to teens.

You can drive to Philly in approximately two hours, or lighten your carbon footprint by taking the bargain-priced Megabus or BoltBus. Amtrak is a pricier option, but every child ages 2 to 15 accompanied by a full-paying adult snags half-price tickets, and babies under 2 ride for free.

If you decide to stay the night, my family has enjoyed the Hotel Palomar Philadelphia, which has an artsy vibe, and the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, with its small indoor pool.

Whether you visit for a day, a weekend or longer, here are 13 fun activities for your family.

Five Things to do with Kids in Providence, Rhode Island

Things to do with kids: Five Things to do with Kids in Providence, Rhode Island

Are you looking for a last-minute labor day weekend getaway? Or maybe you are organized enough to already be planning a fall weekend trip. If Providence, Rhode Island, doesn’t immediately come to mind as a family-friendly hotspot, maybe it should. This medium-sized town is hopping with fun, arty activities that even “been there, done that” New York kids and their parents will approve.

Providence is a three-hour straight-shot up the I-95. If you prefer to leave the driving to someone else, Megabus is launching direct service from Manhattan to Providence, starting August 25. These double-decker, WiFi-equipped buses are an eco-friendly way to travel, and the views from the top-deck should please the kids. To launch the new service, there will be plenty of bargain-priced tickets for sale over the next few weeks.

Here are 5 cool things to do with kids in Providence, Rhode Island’s Creative Capital.

10 Things to Do in New Orleans with Kids

Things to do with kids: 10 Things to Do in New Orleans with Kids

I know when we've hit upon a good vacation spot when my husband starts to question why we live in NYC. It only took a few hours in New Orleans for him to start with the following line of questioning - Why do we live in NYC again? Do you realize what kind of house we could live in here if we sold our 5th floor walk-up? Usually I rebuff all this with reminders of how NYC is the only cool place in the country. But New Orleans left me with little response, I have to admit, it's got more culture and soul than even my beloved NYC.

While I don't think we are moving any time soon, we do want to go back for Mardi Gras which our friends have convinced us is a great event for kids. Though you need to know what to avoid, ie the boob flashing streets of the French Quarter and where to hang with kids, they suggest St. Charles Ave where families set up in one spot and watch the procession pass. And of course, the accumulation of beads is enough to entertain most kids for a long time.

But, N.O. is an amazing place to visit any time of year and there is always something going on in addition to the incredible architecture, food and music.
