From the quiet, tree-lined brownstone streets to the bustling business districts along Fulton Street and Nostrand Avenues, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brookyn has something for everyone. With a deep-rooted history of Black residents, the neighborhood is recognized as one of the earliest free Black communities in the United States. Drawn by its rich cultural history, beautiful architecture, close-knit community, and plethora of Black-owned businesses, Bed-Stuy is one of the best corners of Brooklyn.

Bordered by Flushing Avenue to the north, Atlantic Avenue to the south, Classon Avenue on the west, and Broadway on the east, most of the neighborhood is easily accessible by the A, C, and G trains, along with several bus lines. But one of the best ways to experience Bed-Stuy is on foot.

1. Hattie Carthan Community Market

See what's growing at this community-based farmers market, which hosts cooking demonstrations and educational events for neighborhood residents.

2. The Billie Holiday Theatre

Founded in 1972, with roots in both the Civil Rights and the Black arts movements, this performing arts venue often hosts family-friendly performances.

3. Herbert Von King Park

Jog, bike, or stroll through one of Brooklyn's first parks, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who also designed Central Park and Prospect Park. The colorful outdoor amphitheater is a great place to enjoy a free concert under the stars.

4. The Notorious B.I.G. Mural

Head to the corner of Bedford Avenue and Quincy Street to find this famous mural honoring one of Brooklyn’s most famous artists, just a few blocks from where the hip-hop icon grew up. The striking 38-foot piece was created by Naoufal “Rocko” Alaoui and Scott “Zimer” Zimmerman in 2015.

This awesome indoor playground features swings, soft ball pits, obstacle courses, illuminated slides, and games. It's the perfect option on bad weather days when your kids need to run around and expend some energy.

13. Artshack Brooklyn

Let your little ones get their hands dirty as they mold, shape, and create something during this spot's popular ceramics classes. There are also regularly scheduled FREE community days with an artist in residence.

14. Soul Collections Sewing Lounge

Kids ages 6 to 16 can learn the basics of sewing here; participants get hands-on experience with cutting and sewing and leave the class with a variety of completed projects. Head next door where owner Shannon P. Curry recently opened Lil J's Creative Canvas, which offers crafting classes, open play, and summer camp.

This restored 1860s landmark features original architectural details blending antiques and Afrocentric design. The bed and breakfast sits on a quiet brownstone block and boasts stately guest rooms, some with Jacuzzis and fireplaces. Breakfast is included, and afternoon tea is also offered. Public spaces include a library, a TV and game room, a sun room, and a shaded courtyard.
