We tested the top home robots, from the best robot vacuum cleaner to cat litter robots, and here's what we thought.

Home robots can help automate some pretty heinous household chores that make parenting so hard. Anything that makes parenting easier? Sign me up! From robot vacuum cleaners to cat litter sifting robots to automated lawn mowers, there are a lot of home robot helpers out there. But, they can run into big bucks. Are they worth it?

This topic came up in the Mommy Poppins group chat, and we all had some honest truths to share with each other about which household chore robots were worth their weight in gold, and which ones were expensive dust collectors. And what we named our little mechanical helpers. (Because, oddly, most of us have names for the ones we love! Say hello to Poolio Iglesias, for example!)

Discover which robot vacuum cleaners are the best and which surprising home robots will make parenting just a little easier. For more insider parenting tips, check out our Mommy Poppins Parenting Guide.

Roomba Plus 405 Combo

I've long envied robot vacuums, but worried that they wouldn't be able to handle my complicated floor plan or family. I have a small NYC apartment with a combo of hardwood floors, tile, and area rugs—plus three kids, a free-roaming bunny, and long hair I seemingly shed everywhere. Sheralonda—as we've affectionately named our Roomba—has quickly become my new best friend, cruising along all my surfaces three times a week.

It sucks up all the mess we throw at it. I love that it can vacuum and mop in one cleaning session, and it can sense when it's on carpet, lifting its dual-spinning mop pads. My floors have never been this clean. – Jody M., NYC Editor

Smart Home Devices and Systems

“Hey Siri, remind me to add eggs to the shopping list at 2:00 today.”
Honestly, I have no idea how I ever lived without my Smart Home setup. From turning off lights and adjusting the thermostat to sending emails with just my voice—she does it all. Total game changer. I use the Apple HomeKit, but you can use whatever syncs with your devices! – Ally N., Social Media Manager

Stirr - The Unique Automatic Pan Stirrer

We have this auto stirrer that goes into our pots of sauces and soups and mixes the contents so that nothing burns! This seems like a small thing, but honestly, it frees me up from standing over the stove, and I love it. – Jaime S., Long Island Events Editor

LARQ Self-Cleaning Stainless Steel Water Bottle

My least favorite job is cleaning water bottles. I hate it. So when someone began evangelizing these self-cleaning bottles to me, I was skeptical but intrigued. I know they're really for camping or traveling abroad, but honestly, it also means that you know your kids are drinking from a sanitized bottle. In this day of germ phobia, not to mention the fact that if your kids are like mine, they drink from the same musty bottle that's been in their backpack for a week, it's a nice thing to not have to worry about. – Meghan R., Managing Editor

Café Specialty Drip Coffee Maker

This coffee maker is heaven for tired parents. You use an app to set it from bed, on the last mile of your run, or the night before. You can also suddenly realize you need coffee as you're making breakfast, and if it's hooked up to your Alexa/Siri/Google Home, you can use your voice to tell it to make coffee. Also, it makes truly great coffee. – Meghan R., Managing Editor

For pregnant moms, this might litter-ally be a life-saver. For the rest of us, it "only" takes our crappiest job off the plate. Photo courtesy of Whisker

Our Favorite Pet-Focused Robots

Litter-Robot 4 Supply Bundle by Whisker

This is my favorite helper, hands down. And it's so great for expectant moms who shouldn't be near cat litter. It's the top-of-the-line cat litter robot, so it's not cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. You hook it up to your phone, so you can also track cat health; we noticed that one of our cats was using it less from the app and took a preventative trip to the vet that saved our little guy a painful UTI and saved ourselves (another) expensive emergency room visit.

It cleans the litter, lets you know when it needs refills, and even reduces the litter that the cats track around the house. One of our cats refused to use it at first, and we went through the steps on the Whisker website to get reluctant cats using it, and those tips worked! I truly can't sing the praises of this robot enough. (If you have a cat who won't use yours, email me. I will walk you through what we did to get our picky cat using it!) – Meghan R., Managing Editor

Pet Zone Self Cleaning Automatic Cat Litter Box

Vastly cheaper than many similar litter boxes, this option works great now that we just have one cat. It helps with the smell and we don't have to clean it that often. It's a great time saver because I have three young kids and not enough time for these daily chores, and it doesn't cost a fortune to get started. – Jessica S., Houston Editor

Robot Pet Toys

My brother's dog identifies as a cat. She won't snuggle, play ball etc., but loves chasing shiny things, reflections, and shadows. My husband bought her a ROJECO Auto Laser Cat Toy, and the dog plays with it for hours, keeping her active. Along those lines, we have an All For Paws Original Dog Automatic Ball Launcher for our overactive doodle. He essentially plays a solo game of fetch whenever he wants, if we are busy! – Jaime S., Long Island Events Editor

PetSafe Analog 2 Meal Programmable Pet Feeder

This automatic feeder is easy to use, only requiring the turn of a dial. It's inexpensive, lasts for years, and will satisfy kitties that demand 3am feedings. That's primarily why I got it; I didn't like being woken up in the middle of the night! But it's also great if you're at the beach all day, have a long workday, or even are out of town overnight.  Gabby W., Copy Editor

Our Favorite Yard Work Robots

Husqvarna Automower 115H Robot Lawn Mower

You will be the envy of your neighbors, sitting back while your robot mows your lawn for you! I got my Husqvarna Automower 115H for under $500, and I can't believe these aren't in every home. While there's some initial set-up (a few hours, plus some fine-tuning), once you're done, you will never mow your lawn again—or worry about filling up the tank, since they are eco-friendly electric-powered. Pricier options are available for larger lawns or with GPS.   Anna F., Mommy Poppins Founder

Grillbot

Who wants to spend hours getting all greasy while scraping their grill? I tried the Grillbot — a small, automatic robot that cleans your grill with the push of a button — and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. You just set it on the grill, hit start, and it scrubs away on its own. It’s not perfect for deep cleans, but it’s a great time-saver for regular maintenance and definitely beats doing it by hand. – Ally N., Social Media Manager

iGarden Pool Cleaner K Pro 150

True Story: This robot literally saved my marriage. Enter the iGarden Pool Cleaner K Pro 150, or as we now call him, Poolio Iglesias. He gets to work without complaint or talking back, and just glides along the pool floor and walls without a care in the world. Honestly, he picks up debris way better than we expected. Setup was super simple. I literally just opened the box, charged him up, and then he got right to work! It’s not the cheapest option out there, but for the peace it’s brought to our home (and our weekends), it’s been totally worth it. – Ally N., Social Media Manager

Anminto Automatic Window Cleaning Robot

I have outdoor windows that can't be reached with a regular ladder. So... my outside windows haven't been cleaned in the 7 years that I've lived in this house, beyond what I can reach hanging out the window with my husband holding onto my legs. But this little root guy sticks to the window and can go up higher than I can reach, and without me worrying that he'll break a leg if he falls.  Meghan R., Managing Editor

Not Quite a Robot...But Makes Cleaning Easier

Casabella Click, Clean and Organize Collection

This isn't a robot, but it's a system that makes floor cleanup so easy, and it's less expensive. I'm a little obsessed. You supply the elbow grease, but with all the easy-to-change broom heads for each task, I find I spend about half as much time cleaning floors, so I just wanted to mention it! It also all hangs on the back of one door, so I was able to get rid of all my mops and brooms and floor polishers that have long handles and get in the way.  Meghan R., Managing Editor
